Energy Is a Habit: How to Unlock Your Inner Power
Simple Practices to Elevate Your Energy and Become the Best Version of Yourself
We usually think that our energy, well-being, and vitality come primarily from our lifestyle and health choices, but that’s just a part of the whole picture. A healthy diet, quality sleep, exercise, and movement are a foundation for health and well-being. Still, we tend to forget that another crucial part influences how we feel and operate daily - our mind and mindset.
In this newsletter, we’ll talk about how we can harness our minds and mindset to improve and raise our energy, well-being, and vitality to the next level to become the best versions of ourselves and live our best lives.
When we try to improve our energy and vitality, the first step is usually to implement changes in our lifestyle that will improve the health of our body.
Like the house's foundations, the body is the base, the bottom layer of a pyramid. If something in our body doesn’t function as it is supposed to, we can’t achieve the state of abundant energy, vitality, and well-being. That’s why the body and physical health are the first pillars that we should focus on improving. Once the body is healthy, operates, and functions properly and optimally, it will support all the other pillars.
Then the second pillar of health that has a huge impact on our wellbeing is the mind. Our mind plays a much bigger role in our lives than we usually think. It controls our physical, mental, and emotional functioning and thus influences how we perceive the world and how we operate in it.
Optimizing our mindset and learning how to take control of the mind is probably the hardest of all four pillars of health. It's far from being an easy and quick fix, it usually takes a lot of time and patience, but it's worth pursuing. As with other things in life, the best way to master the mind and optimize our mindset is by making it a habit and practicing it regularly.
Energy is a habit
I recently watched a video of Tony Robbins, world-renowned coach, lecturer, author, and motivator where he talked about what I’m writing in this article. In this video, he said that the fundamental key to transformation is energy.
We need energy to live. We need energy to succeed. Our energy is the basis of all good things in our life.
Tony then said that we don’t get energy solely from food or sleep. He said these things are “a source”, not “the source”. According to Tony, the strongest muscles on Earth are spiritual muscles: emotional, psychological, and spiritual muscles. Things like courage, faith, determination, love.
If we can learn to direct our minds and emotions, we can make everything else happen in our world. But to do that, we have to change the distorting deleting, and generalizing patterns. And to do that we need energy.
Then he made a push line that stayed with me:
“Energy is a habit. Energy can be released with your mind, with your psychology. And we need to train ourselves.”
In that moment my mind went into thinking: “What could I do to make energy a habit in my life? What could be some exercises and practices that I could implement in my life to swift my mind and raise my energy daily?”
Then I remembered Tony’s exercise called “Priming” which is one of my favorite exercises to instantly change my mind and raise my well-being but haven’t done it in a long time. I then sat down and did that guided exercise and instantly felt how my mood changed and my energy and well-being elevated.
Priming exercise involves several practices that are known and shown to control the mind, change our mindset, internal patterns, and belief systems, improve mood, and raise energy, vitality well-being, and quality of life. But what I think plays the most important part and why this exercise is so powerful is that it harnesses heightened emotional and spiritual states, which are according to Tony “the most important muscles for energy and change.”
How to make energy a habit?
So if you want to make energy a habit, here are a couple of practices that you could implement in your daily life to shift the mind and elevate your emotional state and vibrational frequency, which will help get in that heightened energy state, and improve your health, well-being, and vitality.
Optimize your body and biology
Start with the basics: prioritize high-quality sleep, nourish your body with whole, nutrient-dense foods, and ensure you stay hydrated throughout the day.
Engage in regular physical activity that aligns with your energy levels, from cardio to strength training, to enhance circulation and oxygenation.
Consider supplements, like adaptogens or B vitamins, to support your energy levels naturally.
Posture and movement
Pay attention to how you carry yourself throughout the day. Straighten your back, pull your shoulders down, and lift your chin for an instant confidence and energy boost.
Incorporate micro-movements or stretches, such as yoga poses or tai chi, to release tension and increase vitality.
Use dynamic movement (e.g., walking or dancing) to break through sluggish energy and elevate your state.
Smile
Practice smiling intentionally, even when you don’t feel like it. Smiling releases dopamine, endorphins, and serotonin, which can naturally elevate your mood and energy.
Stand in front of a mirror and smile at yourself as part of your morning routine to set a positive tone for the day.
Use breathwork to shift your mind
Breath has a profound impact on our state and well-being. Experiment with energizing techniques (like Wim Hof breathing) to raise and elevate your mood energy or techniques like the 4-7-8 method (inhale for 4 seconds, hold for 7, exhale for 8) to calm your mind and regulate stress.
Dedicate a few minutes daily to conscious breathing to center yourself and reset your energy.
Meditate
Use meditation to quiet your mind and create space for clarity and focus. Guided meditation on YouTube or apps like Calm or Headspace can be helpful if you're new to meditation.
Experiment with guided meditations specifically designed to elevate your mood or energy, such as visualizing light filling your body.
Aim for consistency, even if it’s just 5-10 minutes a day, to establish a habit of mindfulness.
Envision your ideal and triumphant future self
Dedicate time to vividly imagine the best version of yourself. Picture your achievements, relationships, and life filled with purpose and vitality.
Use visualization techniques to rehearse success or challenges, helping you align your mindset with your goals.
Combine visualization with affirmations that reinforce your belief in this ideal version of yourself.
Practice gratitude
Write down three things you’re grateful for every morning to shift your mindset into a positive frequency.
Reflect on moments of gratitude at the end of the day to reframe challenges and stay focused on the good.
Share your gratitude with others to strengthen social connections and amplify your emotional well-being.
Priming Exercise
Follow Tony Robbins’ structured Priming routine or adapt it to suit your needs: begin with deep breathing, express gratitude, visualize success, and set powerful intentions.
Combine Priming with uplifting music or mantras to supercharge the emotional and spiritual experience.
Commit to doing it daily or weekly as a cornerstone habit for setting the tone for your day and raising your energy.
Energy is a dynamic interplay between the body, mind, and spirit. By intentionally cultivating habits that align with your physical, emotional, and mental well-being, you can tap into a reservoir of vitality and transform your life. Small, consistent practices can help you unlock your full potential and create a life filled with purpose and passion. Start today, and remember: energy is a habit, and the more you practice, the more it becomes your natural state.
